The Scottish Terrier, or Scottie, is a small, sturdy, and dignified breed with a distinctive wiry coat and compact, muscular build. Standing about 10 inches tall and weighing 18-22 pounds, they are known for their bold and confident personality. Originally bred for hunting small game in Scotland, Scottish Terriers are independent, alert, and highly intelligent. They are often described as "big dogs in small bodies," as they have a strong sense of loyalty and are protective of their family. Scotties can be reserved or aloof with strangers, but they are typically affectionate and devoted to their owners. They require regular grooming to maintain their signature coat and enjoy daily walks and mental stimulation. Although they are generally good with families, early socialization and training are important due to their strong-willed nature.
